Event Details

This is a self-paced, open entry and open exit workshop conducted completely online.

KITCenter virtual workshops are designed to deliver timely content on demand. Workshops may contain video, podcasts, websites, discussion groups and downloadable information. Participants may occasionally be required to participate in online discussions.

This virtual workshop will explore geocoding of data.  Geocoding is the process of adding latitude and longitude to a street address.  Clipping and Buffering of data will also be covered in this workshop.  You should complete the Introduction GIS 1 virtual workshop or have experience using ArcMap before taking this virtual workshop.

Clipping of data is the process of using a boundary file to clip a geographical area, such as using a county line to clip out data from a state and display only one county.  Buffering is where you extend the point, line or polygon to a region outside of the initial location.  In geocoding you will add geography to street addresses; you will use a locator file to accomplish this task.

In this workshop you will also learn the basics of making a map. You will either need to have a local copy of ArcMap (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) available or use a remote copy.  If you do not have a local copy, please let us know and we can make available a remote copy that is a fully functional version.  You will also need a locator file to complete the geocoding process, one is included with ArcMap.
